Business Sales Lead to Continued Optimism
As Omaha business brokers, the current optimism we see around business sales is unparalleled. With an uptick toward the end of 2016 and a positive outlook in the first half of 2017, the time to sell a business has rarely been better.
The year 2016 was a record year, where annual small business transactions reached record levels, topping 2015’s totals by 8.6 percent – according to BizBuySell.com. Additionally, in 2016 the median revenue of sold businesses grew 5.2 percent and median cash flow also increased. Coming off the tail of a record breaking year, a year-end survey in 2016 by BizBuySell.com indicated that close to 80 percent of the business brokers surveyed expected numbers to improve again in 2017.
And they were right. A record 2,368 small businesses changed hands in the first quarter of 2017 — up 29 percent from the same time last year. Median revenue and median cash flow are also up from 2016.
